Have you heard about The Stitch? This cutting edge project is a plan proposed by Central Atlanta Progress & Atlanta Downtown Improvement District to reconnect Midtown & Downtown Atlanta. The goal would be to create new commercial & residential developments in the north part of Downtown. The Stitch would also create new public spaces for events, further reconnecting Midtown and Downtown Atlanta.
The current proposal is to cap the Downtown Connector by building concrete decking over the top of I-75/85 with a Spring St. flyover to the Piedmont Avenue Bridge. Ultimately, it would turn a stretch of highway into a tunnel. If this project goes through, the cost could be as high as 300 million dollars.
Currently The Stitch is still very much in the concept stages, but we still think it’s a very cool project to watch out for. Below are some renderings of this potential new construction.
