This past April brought about enormous increases in the number of jobs added to the labor market, especially compared to the strained figures posted in January and February as a result of the brutal winter we experienced. 288,000 jobs were added last month, 68,000 more than were expected by economists. The number of jobs added per industry is broken down below:

Information/Finance/Professional Services 78,000 jobs
Manufacturing/Transportation/Warehousing 39,000 jobs
Leisure and Hospitality 28,000 jobs
Retailers 34,500 jobs
Construction 32,000 jobs
Education and Health Services 40,000 jobs
Government 15,000 jobs
