Under Armour Eyes Atlanta for Major Distribution Hub

Under Armour has announced that Atlanta is one of three major metro regions in the Southeast region that the company is considering for a new distribution facility; Atlanta is competing with Nashville, TN and Greenville, SC for the sports apparel center. Atlanta has emerged an early frontrunner, thanks in part to Atlanta’s superb infrastructure and the world’s busiest airport. In fact, the company has plans for establishing the facility within the Fort Gillem redevelopment project, but Kroger’s 1 million SF facility within the same project caused them to look elsewhere. According to company sources, Under Armour is now looking in the Northeast submarket along Interstate 85. Company reps have stated their chief concern in this process is reducing transportation costs by opening facilities close to their customer base. If they are looking for transportation convenience and access, Nashville and Greenville cannot compete with Atlanta; Atlanta is just hours from one of the East Coast’s busiest ports (Savannah), has unparalleled interstate access (I-85, I-75, I-20, US-41), and offers a deep railway network.
