Rooker Development has purchased the 90-acre Shannon Mall site in Union City and plans to turn the failed retail establishment into an industrial complex. Over the past decade, a few firms have purchased the struggling property in hopes of breathing new life into it, but all attempts failed. The retail trend has been swinging away from enclosed malls to open-air shopping centers that offer the consumer more than just retail.
Rooker felt that the property would make a great redevelopment opportunity, especially given that it is less than 10 miles from the Atlanta airport and has great access to I-85. The development firm hopes to attract both national and international companies with logistics and transportation requirements to the new space. The Mayor of Union City expressed his excitement over the redevelopment and hopes to see another major company like Kraft Foods, who opened a distribution center in Union City in recent years, take advantage of the city’s location.Share
