Sandy Springs Presses “Pause” on Apartments

apartment construction

It’s no secret that Atlanta is in the middle of an intense “apartment boom,” and it’s also no secret that the amount of projects entering the pipeline has started to raise a few eyebrows amongst investors who fear an over-supply issue. Some of these eyebrows happen to belong to Sandy Springs officials, who have been so overrun with apartment project permits that they have placed a 60-day moratorium on all new apartment projects. Although the majority of apartment construction is taking place in Buckhead and Midtown, Sandy Springs and the rest of the Central Perimeter market has seen increasing activity thanks to the new State Farm campus and the Sandy Springs City Center redevelopment, among other things. Sandy Springs officials say they need this 60 day break to ensure that the permits that are awarded give way to construction that fits in with the overall plan for the area.
