MARTA to Run Atlanta Streetcar Project in its First Year

In a plan submitted to the Federal Transit Administration, it was revealed that MARTA and the City of Atlanta will be responsible for running the Atlanta Streetcar project. Because MARTA and associated officials have so much experience with Metro transportation and what goes into making transit around the city work, they will oversee all management and staffing for the first year. During this time the city will create an Office of Transit and FTA Administration, which will take control of operations after the first year. The city will save an estimated $5 million over the first 5 years of the projects by using MARTA and the city instead of a private contractor.
