MARTA Approves Budget, Expands Service

As of this past Thursday, the MARTA Board of Directors has approved the 2015 Fiscal Year Operating Budget for the city’s transit system. The board approved a budget of $415.6 million, which will go into effect on July 1st. The increase in available funds will allow MARTA to increase their rail service hours by 19% and reduce wait time for trains during peak hours to under 10 minutes. MARTA has made quite a turn-around over the past several years; just three years ago in 2011, MARTA was operating in the red even after increasing fares by 25%.
