IBM Buys Atlanta-based Silverpop

Another successful Atlanta-based tech firm has been sold to a “mega-corporation.” Silverpop, which offers cloud-based marketing software and would help automate and simplify IBM’s multi-channel marketing efforts and monitor customer behavior, currently employs about 500 people in Atlanta; most speculate that the acquisition will only mean increased numbers to the Atlanta workforce. IBM has a huge amount of capital and an enormous customer base, and the acquisition of Silverpop gives the impression that they intend to continue to grow. While the sale price has not been confirmed, a number in the $270 million range has been thrown around – about 3 times the company’s annual revenue.
