GDOT Keeping It In-House

In recent months, the GDOT has made a push to outsource janitorial and landscaping services at state rest areas to private companies. After the bid process ended, however, the GDOT concluded that it would actually cost them more money to outsource this work than to retain its current staff and continue to do the work themselves. The two most competitive bids were $37.7 million and $36.5 million, but GDOT can perform the services in-house for about $27.8 million.
