After months of speculation, grocery giant Kroger Co has decided on the location for its new distribution center – Fort Gillem. The former US Army base beat out competition like land adjacent to the Fulton County Airport to become Kroger’s final decision. No timetable has been given for the project, although sources report that the distribution could encompass as many as 1.5 million SF.
Kroger’s move to Fort Gillem is just the first step towards redevelopment for the 1,500 acre base. If all goes according to plan, renovation and changes made to the property over the next several years could put it on the map as one of the state’s largest and most impressive industrial projects. The Atlanta Regional Commission hopes that the progress being made at Fort Gillem will serve as a catalyst for surrounding area.Share
