Cobb Transit Board Weighs Options

A plan to incorporate a bus rapid transit system connecting Kennesaw to Atlanta has been talked about for years, but the Cobb County Transit System Advisory Board is hearing about alternative options to bus transit while it awaits findings from a study on the efficacy of such a system. A representative from Maglev Technologies Inc. told the Board that his company could build a maglev train for $25 million per mile, which would put the total cost for the project around $472 million. Similarly, reps from Georgia Monorail Consortium told the Board that they could built a monorail train system for about $44 million per mile. Board members stated recently that neither options seems to be a viable alternative to the bus rapid transit system.
