After years of stalled construction caused by the economic collapse, Buckhead Atlanta is finally showing some real progress – progress that most speculated would never be made after being sidelined for almost three years. The land at Peachtree, Pharr, and East Paces Ferrr Road was assembled for this project in 2006 by Ben Carter of Carter’s, but they decided to abandon the project in 2010 due to rising economic struggles. But construction has begun again and is expected to deliver and have its first store open this summer.
Developer OliverMacMillan took the Buckhead Atlanta project over in 2011 and quickly secured one of the nation’s most sizeable construction loans of 2013. The $167 million loan helped to kickstart construction as well as entice some big-name tenants to the site. Spanx Inc, decided in Summer 2012 to put their HQ and flagship store in the Buckhead development upon its completion.
Originally named Streets of Buckhead, OliverMacMillan decided to change the name to Buckhead Atlanta because it felt Streets of Buckhead had a “connotation of being a finite area” where the goal is get this project to blend in with the existing city. The developer hopes that once delivered, this project will provide the increased walkability and improved urban environment that new generation of working people are looking for.Share
