The Cobb County Board of Commissioners voted 4-1 to approve the memorandum of understanding issued by the Braves regarding the construction of a $672 million stadium and surrounding mixed-use development. This agreement states that $300 million in taxpayer dollars will go to development. The only “No” vote came from the Board’s sole Democrat, Lisa Cupid.
In coming weeks, the Board will set about finalizing plans and organizing the funding for their contribution to the development of the project; while speculators are unsure as to where this funding will come from, some suggest that the county will create a tax district in the surrounding area. The Braves organization should be closing on the 60 acre parcel in the next several weeks as well.Share
