Maryland-based Biota Pharmaceuticals is looking to make some major changes in the coming months. In an effort to consolidate both their real estate portfolio and workforce, the company will relocate its headquarters to 2500 Northwinds Parkway in Alpharetta. Biota, who plans to put 30% of their workforce (mostly in the R&D department as they switch from early-stage to clinical-stage development programs), will employ up to 20 people in the 7,000 SF office once the lease commences.
When asked why Biota chose Atlanta as their choice for relocation, executives claimed that Atlanta was a “natural choice” given the biotech infrastructure set up by Emory, Georgia Tech, and Georgia State. Most speculate that adding yet another biotech company’s headquarters to the area will only draw more attention from similar companies.
