Bankruptcy Court Approves Sale of Morris Brown

Last week, we reported that the Morris Brown’s creditors had accepted the $14.6 million bid from The City of Atlanta and Friendship Baptist Church but that a bankruptcy court would have to approve the sale before it could be made final. We also eluded to the fact the Clark Atlanta University might object to the sale of the land to the city and FBS because of a decades-old agreement that was put into place when Clark Atlanta handed the property over to Morris Brown College. This week, a bankruptcy judge approved the sale of the Morris Brown land in spite of Clark Atlanta’s objections and ultimately told the organization that they would have to go through an appeal and review process to prevent the sale from occurring. If all goes according the plan, the city and FBS could close on the property as soon as June 23rd.
