Atlanta One of Top “5 Green Cities”

green buildings

A list compiled by one of the nation’s largest CRE firms regarding energy efficiency and “green buildings” has been made public. Atlanta came in at number five on the list, with Minneapolis, San Francisco, Chicago, and Houston taking the top four spots. 54% of Atlanta’s commercial space is considered “green,” compared to Minneapolis’ 77%. Atlanta has been in the top ten for more than a decade, but 2014 is the first year it has broken into the top five. This can be attributed to the fact that the city has started to focus on how land-use policy and development affect the way people live and work; Atlanta has focused heavily on increased the walkability of many in-town neighborhoods and has increased public transportation service every quarter since 2012. Major projects like The Atlanta Streetcar and the Atlanta Beltline will deliver over the next several years, further increasing the walkability of the city.
